Restaurants
Beasley's Honey Chicken
Janey and Bill discovered this place by accident one evening after Bill came to watch Janey perform with the Raleigh Concert Band at the Christmas Tree Lighting in 2022. Janey loved it so much that she ended up moving into an apartment building on the next block. (Seriously, look up! The tall building on the corner of Martin and Blount is where she lives. If you look closely, you might spot her balcony—it faces Beasley's.) *note to self could be fun to have something on my balcony to identify it*
Our favorites to order:
- The Classic! Fried chicken sandwich, not much can top it.
- Chicken and Waffles - YUM!!!
- Chicken Biscuit, an easy yes, any day.
Raleigh Beer Garden
Another favorite spot for the couple features 386 draft beers available daily. The first floor offers a selection of North Carolina drafts, while the upstairs "international" floor boasts over 200 beers from across the country and around the world. Out back, there's a new putt-putt course in the yard that's a lot of fun!
Our Favorites to Order:
-The Sour Money -Janey's favorite sour beer
-The Black Widow - Bill's favorite fruit cider
-Beer Battered Pretzel - Their beer cheese is amazing!
-Cluck You Pizza - delicious hot honey pizza!
The Pit
Janey and Bill love visiting The Pit, especially before or after a trip to Circa 1888 (which is right next door!). The Pit offers great barbecue, and while Janey hasn't found a place in Raleigh that truly does Carolina Gold Sauce justice, this one comes pretty close.
Our Favorites to Order:
-Barbeque Plate - 'plain and simple'
-The Pit Bacon Cheeseburger - Pimento Cheese on a burger is always a win!
Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar
Cowfish is a standout fusion spot that truly lives up to its name, combining the best of both worlds with gourmet burgers and fresh sushi. For Janey, who loves sushi, and Bill, who can always find a great burger here, Cowfish is the perfect spot for them.
Our Favorites to Order:
-Crab Rangoon Dip - just as yummy as it sounds!
-The All-American Bacon Double Cheesburgerooshi - trust me, if you can't decide between a burger and
sushi, just try this. It's the perfect fusion of the two and surprisingly delicious
-The Thundering Herd Bison Burger Bill's favorite burger to order here!
Drinks
Circa 1888
This was our second date (and many many more since then)! Nice dive bar and bonus points if you play pool! Stays pretty quiet until about 9pm, but the vibes are amazing.
BitterSweet
Another place super close to Janey's apartment, and another frequent stop for drinks after a home cooked meal, or when we have a reason to celebrate! This dessert bar has dessert drinks and many delicious desserts to end off the night out.
Activities
Dorothea Dix Park
Dorothea Dix Park holds a special place in our hearts—it's where our love story took a magical turn. Nestled in the heart of Raleigh, this park was the backdrop of our engagement, making it a cherished part of our journey together. It is great for picnics, great adventures, and greenways to go on afternoon walks. We highly recommend spending the morning or afternoon at Dorothea!
Pullen Park
Pullen Park is another spot close to our hearts. We've loved having picnics, taking relaxing walks, and just enjoying the beautiful surroundings. It's been a favorite place for fun and relaxation!
Natural Science Museum
The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences holds a special place for us. We often popped in on our walks back from church to explore the exhibits. We especially love the new Dueling Dinosaurs exhibit—it's a blast for all ages and never fails to amaze us!
The State Capital
Don't miss a trip to the State Capitol! We recommend taking a self-guided tour to explore this historic gem at your own pace. It's a great way to dive into local history and enjoy some stunning architecture.
Marbles Kids Museum
We highly recommend the Marbles Kids Museum for anyone with young children. It's filled with interactive exhibits and fun activities that make it a perfect spot for family outings.
